There are many ways to defend as the Big Sky Conference has shown this year. 1) Man Defense-Run & Jump, Face Guard Denial, Saggy, Switching, Over/Under, Trapping Ball Screens, Shadowing Ball Screens, etc. 2) Zone Defense-2-2-1, 1-2-1-1, 2-1-2, 3-2, 1-3-1, Box & One I was at my son's YMCA basketball game a few weeks back and he was guarding his player like a box out with his back to him the entire time. Guess what, it worked and completely annoyed his opponent. Not one touch, shot, rebound. If you see our team guarding with our backs turned tomorrow, you'll know where it came from but I think it might even be a rebounding advantage since we've already boxed out! Go Cats!
